Practical health guide

How to prepare for a telehealth appointment

A few minutes of preparation can help your doctor understand the problem and decide what can be assessed safely online.

Before the appointment

Write down your main concern, when it started, what makes it better or worse, and any warning signs. Have your medication list, allergies, relevant diagnoses and recent results ready.

Set up a useful environment

Choose a private, well-lit place with reliable reception. For video, test your camera and microphone. Keep a thermometer or other relevant home readings nearby if you already use them; do not delay care to obtain equipment.

Plan the next steps

Confirm how documents or prescriptions will be delivered, who will review any results, and when to seek in-person or urgent care. Telehealth may end with advice to attend a clinic or emergency service.
